With the sequel to 'Spider-Man: Homecoming" already on the books, it had been quiet for a while in terms of any news regarding its future plot and casting. Especially, after its success last year at the box office and acclaim from both critics and fans.
Now all of a sudden we get not only one, but two casting news for its July 5, 2019 release. First, is the announcement that Michael Keaton will be returning as the villain the Vulture and second that Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to be the famous Spidey villain Mysterio. Which is a great choice and something new again for the series.
The unfortunate part about it, is the realization that no one is going back to the well in terms of trying to re-imagine the other characters the previous Spidey films had already dabbled with. Additionally, if they are picking these two villains it seems Marvel is not touching any big story-lines from the comics as of yet. Unless they are just building the catalog of villains for a future 'Sinister Six' film, but that still a long way's away.
