Weekend U.S. Box Office July 20-22, 2018

While some of us can't understand how 'the Equalizer' managed to get a sequel story wise, financially it seems to have been a sensible choice, especially if it has the same box office trajectory with its first film (source). Same could also be said for 'Mamma Mia' (source). However, diminishing returns could mean that this first weekend box office is just an inflated success story and the next weeks will be big blows they didn't expect, case in point 'Ant Man' from previous weekends that a had bigger drop than audiences and studio execs expected.
